Benjamin D. Patton, CPA
Ben Patton entered public accounting in 1979 after graduating from the University of Maryland with a BS in business administration. He was certified as a CPA in 1982. Ben is the founding principal of Patton and Braucht, P.C.
Ben has experience in a variety of accounting and tax services, including financial statements (auditing, review and compilation) and taxes (individual, business, non-profit, estates and trusts) and considers himself to be a general practitioner. He currently is the main principal representing our clients before the IRS, and oversees the tax department and the firm’s quality control program.
Ben is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is licensed to practice in both Maryland and Virginia.
Ben is married and has seven children - six girls and one boy in the middle. He attends Rock Creek Church in Derwood Maryland. He enjoys camping and hiking.
Craig W. Braucht, CPA
Craig entered the world of accounting in 1986 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bob Jones University. He joined the firm in 1993 and became a principal in May 1995.
Craig focuses on providing comprehensive accounting services to small businesses and their owners. These services include financial statement preparation, corporate tax returns, payroll and sales tax returns in addition to individual tax preparation. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is licensed in the state of Virginia and Georgia.
Craig is married and has one daughter. His family attends church at Fairfax Baptist Temple. In his spare time he enjoys riding his Harley Davidson.
Rodney A. Nielsen, CPA
Rod is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelors of Business Administration from Northwood Institute before entering the accounting field in 1989. In 1990 he moved his family to Virginia in order to work for Patton and Braucht, P.C. He is the manager of the Individual Tax Department and is a principal in the firm. Rod also assists small business with accounting and tax consultation services. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is licensed in the state of Virginia.
Rod enjoys tennis and helping with children’s programs at church.
John M. Erskine, CPA
John earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland in 1971. He joined Ben Patton to form Patton & Erskine, P.C. in 1990.
John has been serving not-for-profit organizations since 1971 and businesses since 1980. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is licensed to practice in both Maryland and Virginia.
John semi-retired in 2008 although he is still available to provide his expertise in specialty situations.
Bruce L Gittenger, CPA
Bruce has a Master of Music in Performance from The Catholic University of America and played trumpet in The United States Marine Band in Washington, DC for 20 years before becoming an accountant. He began his career change by preparing individual tax returns in 1986 while studying the additional accounting courses he needed to sit for the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant.
Bruce came to Patton and Braucht, P.C. in 1995 as a business tax manager and stayed for 6 years before moving with his family to Europe for 4 years. We were pleased to have him rejoin the firm when he returned to the U. S. in 2005.
Michael B. Puckett
Mike has been with Patton and Braucht, P.C. since he began his accounting career in 2004. He graduated with a B. A. from Western Maryland College with a minor in accounting and is currently preparing to sit for the CPA exam. Mike’s focus is on preparing financial statements, corporate tax returns and Not-for-Profit returns.
G. M. Gress (Bobbi), CPA, EA
Bobbi is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina as well as an Enrolled Agent licensed by the Treasury Department. She has a master of arts degree from Antioch School of Law and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accontants, National Association of Enrolled Agents, and Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents. She is a fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute.
Bobbi was a sole practictioner for many years. Her firm, G. M. Gress, CPA, EA, was located in Arlington, Virginia until she associated with Patton and Braucht in November 2008. She has extensive experience in individual, small business, and non-profit accounting and taxation.
Bobbi is married with a blended family of four children and four grandchildren. Other than family, her passion is nature and landscape photography. She also enjoys water-related activities.
